Strategic Research Program ETORTEK of the Basque Government, cofunded by the Environment and Regional Planning Department and the Industry, Comerce and Culture Department, within the ECOBASK -Environmental Sustainability and Natural Resources- Program.
Period 2005-2007.
EKO-LURRALDEA is a strategic research project, which mission is the conceptualization and development, from a trans-disciplinary perspective, of new approaches, models, methodologies and tools, aiming to support the implementation and consequent monitoring of sustainable strategies of spatial planning at local and regional level in the Basque Country. All this, strongly focused on the environmental (physical features, ecological …) and socioeconomic knowledge (economic activities, urbanism, social factors …) of the natural and man-made environment and its interactions and synergies. As an orientated research Project, is based on the development of the general knowledge of the processes which rule the territory dynamics and the application of such knowledge to generate decision support tools from a holistic perspective towards its sustainable management. EKO-LURRALDEA claims for the integration of the scientific and technological dimensions with the provision of a high-level training in European reference institutions, and for international cooperation.
